Child Sponsorship

Child sponsorships can help save lives. ARMS National and Darwin offices run an innovative child sponsorship program that is giving hope to children in desperate need and their families.

National Office

Children in poverty need our help. ARMS children in poverty child sponsorship program overs a range of sponsorship opportunities where people can make a real difference in the lives of needy children. These sponsorships pay the educational costs of one child in a poor family.

The scheme came about years ago when we became aware that in Thailand children can be sold into the sex trade in order to provide an education for other members of the family. We wanted to try and address this. The sponsorships that are available take three forms;

  • Educational sponsorships for children in Bangkok slums.
  • Educational sponsorships for children in poverty in the Philippines
  • Educational Sponsorship for preschool students in refugee camps in Thailand.

We also run sponsorships for children living in poverty in Kurdistan.

Bangkok Slums

Like many we were shocked to find out that some families are so desperate to educate their children that they sell one or more of their children (usually the girls) into the sex trade in order to educate other members of their family.

The sponsorship program pays the educational costs of one of one child so that other children in the family are no longer at risk. Over the years we have seen children living in slums go on to complete their education up to college level.

Filipino Sponsorships

Many families in the Philippines live in abject poverty. Although public education in the Philippines is free students still need to pay book and uniform fees. Many poorer students struggle with schooling and fall behind. The sponsorship program provides payment of the fees each student needs to pay in order go to school together with extra classes or tutoring for children who are falling behind.

Karen Refugee Preschool Sponsorships

ARMS has been supporting the work of several preschools running in the Mae-la and other refugee camps on the Thai / Burmese border. These preschools have children who are usually traumatised and run on a shoe string budget. Families in the camps can move on and so it is hard for us to offer sponsorship of a particular child. Therefore in this instance ARMS provides sponsorships that provide a preschool place for a year at a time.

If you would like to know more about how you can be involved in the National Office child sponsorship program then email us.

Kids Ark Preschool

Kids Ark provides pre-school education in East Timor for 45 children who will each benefit considerably through regular attendance and participation in this program. Sponsorship of AUD $25.00 per month assists these young children from very needy circumstances, giving them a head start with their education, also providing a school uniform, health care and a nutritious meal and snack each day. (At this stage no admin fees will be deducted)

Childrens Home - Bali, Indonesia

The Children?s Home in Kuta has 21 school age children that were previously homeless or abandoned as street children, and are now cared for in a live-in setting, which also allows them to attend a local school. The child sponsorship project helps the staff in Bali to provide food, clothing, education, health care and accommodation for the children. The cost of sponsorship is AUD $32.00. ($2.00 of this is for admin/bank fees)

Proposed Preschool - Sabu Island, West Timor, Indonesia

Three years ago a couple planted a church in Sabu; throughout this time they have had 14 new converts attend their church. The pastor of this church however is working towards building a pre-school so that these young children can be educated, as there are no pre-school facilities on the Island at all. Unfortunately the children of these new believers have very little because the parents don?t earn a lot of money. We are supporting them through Sponsorship of 10 children, which costs AUD $25.00 per month. (At this stage no admin fees will be deducted)

House of Grace Foundation - Thailand

The House of Grace Foundation in cental Thailand has 8 boys who live there and they are all provided for through the generosity of supporters. Sponsorship of AUD $32.00 per month will provide these boys with food, clothing, education, health care and accommodation.

($2.00 of this is for admin/bank fees)
